I just bought a 1998 Fender Squire Strat Affinity series from a coworker for $25. Now the Squires arent the greatest of Fender guitars, although I had a Japan made one back in the 80's and it was a wonderful axe, but for $25 what a steal for a "project guitar".

Any suggestions on hotrodding this thing? I was thinking of putting HS-3s in the bridge and neck like Mr. Malmsteen. I will have to check with my local guitar tech and see what else is good.

Simpler Dino songs

My guitar teacher just called me, and offered my band a warmup position for his bands new years eve concert. We have a few songs, but we will have to fix up a few more for the date. So, I wanted some dino suggestions for not too hard dino style songs (as you understand, we are short on time). I would like to get a good delay pedal. Having previously owned a Boss Digital Delay, I know what I'm looking for in terms of features.

The most important thing for me in this effect is that it is easy to set up. What I disliked about the Boss pedal, is because of the knob controls, it was hard to get the same sound twice without spending a 5 minutes to dial in the desired delay. So I want an effect unit that either has presets or uses another method than knobs to...

I want to go back to school and study guitar or the business side of music... I looked at a couple schools, but am most interested in the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA.

I know there are a lot of musicians here -any ideas on the Musicians Institute or music college in general??

I don't get it.. I really like the Ernie Ball EVH style guitar but I can't STAND a trem that you can't bend up. I understand that if you want to use something like a d-tuna then you simply HAVE to lock the trem from bending back but what a sacrifice.

Am I the only person here who feel that slight up bends or trem-vibrato are an essential part of rock guitar?

Today was the last day of my guitar lesson's with my teacher. And quite frankly, i dont know where to go now.According to him, my technique is fairly good, but I really need to get my hands on some Theory. So anyone here have any advice on where i should go next.

fretboard fading

I've mentioned my Vester "shredder" guitar before. It has a rosewood fretboard, and I was wondering about some faded areas. I looked at it a bit earlier tonight, and the fading was limited to 3 different categories:
1. under the E and A strings
2. on the 1st and 2nd frets
3. on each side of the fretwires

This makes me think these are playing-related. The 'board was like that when I bought it.

I was going to ask about this a while back, but didn't get around to...

Vibrato Advice

Hey long time no post.
Recently ive been really working my ass off trying to improve my vibrato. I was wondering if anyone here had any advice or methods that they would be able to share. So far I've just been doodling around with a classical kind ( ala the george Lynch Jack off Vibrato) and regular up and down one. What I really want to learn is how John Sykes does his. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Sometime after A levels next year i'm going to hold down a Job so i can get a Flying V style guitar made by an extremely talented luthier down here in Trinidad.

Its gonna have a mahogany Gibson V style body and a Mahogany/Maple/Purpleheart sandwhich Neck through with ebony fretboard and a Jackson style stock

The cost is $675 us minus the pickups because the woods are cheap down here. I will be buying the pickups soon and the sort of tone i would like are as follows-
